Given f(x) =
4x + 2, find f(x + 3).

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

f(x + 3) = 2(x + 7)

Step-by-step explanation:

Now lets find out what does f(x + 3) means.

f(x + 3) means shifting the entire function 3 units to the left. Which also means, all x values will be shifted to the left by that number of units. (Excluding the constant that is multiplied or divided by x, eg. 5x + 6 shifted by 7 units to the left is 5(x + 7) + 6 and not 5x + 7 + 6.)

From the above,

f(x + 3) = 4(x + 3) + 2 = 4x + 12 + 2 = 4x + 14 = 2(x + 7)

My answer: m= 2; n=-10
b. Use your answer to part (a) to find the positive solution to x^2+4x-6=0
x=

Answers

Answer:

[tex]x \approx 1.16[/tex]

Step-by-step explanation:

a.

To find the values of m and n, we have to first expand  [tex](x + m)^2 + n[/tex] :

[tex](x + m)^2 + n[/tex]

⇒ [tex]x^2 + 2mx + m^2 + n[/tex]

[tex]f(x) = x^2 + 4x - 6[/tex]

Now  compare the coefficients of the x-terms:

• [tex]2mx = 4x[/tex]

⇒ [tex]\bf m = 2[/tex]

• [tex]m^2 + n = -6[/tex]

⇒  [tex]2^2 + n = -6[/tex]

⇒ [tex]n = -10[/tex]

b.

[tex]x^2 + 4x - 6 = 0[/tex]

∴ [tex](x + 2)^2 - 10 = 0[/tex]

⇒ [tex](x + 2)^2 = 10[/tex]

⇒ [tex]x + 2 = \sqrt{10}[/tex]

⇒ [tex]x = \sqrt{10} -2[/tex]

Solving a Special Solution inequality
17<3h+2<2
h>______
h <______

Answers

Answer:

  h > 5

  h < 0

Step-by-step explanation:

We suppose that a "Special Solution" inequality is one that is technically incorrect, but is written using a compact "shorthand" form.

As written, the inequality claims that 17 < 2, which is false. There can be no value of the variable that will make this true. We presume the intended meaning is ...

  17 < 3h +2   or   3h +2 < 2

Special solution

Subtracting 2 from the inequality gives ...

  15 < 3h < 0

Dividing by 3 gives ...

  5 < h < 0

There is no value of h that is both greater than 5 and less than 0, so we presume this means the OR (union) of the solution sets ...

  h > 5

  h < 0

B. 9 hours
C. 16 hours
D. 19 hours

Answers

Answer: B. 9 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

Question analysis (Optional if you can understand the question)

Since they are 1170 miles apart, with their speed, the question is asking how long would it take them to travel 1170 miles together.

In other words, the distance that Jo and Jan together add up to 1170 miles.

Given information

Total distance = 1170 miles

Jo's rate = 60 mph

Jan's rate = 70 mph

Set variables

Let x be the time they took to meet each other

Set equation

60x + 70x = 1170

Solve equation

130x = 1170

Divide 130 on both sides

130x / 130 = 1170 / 130

How do you work this equation? x² + x - 30 = 0

Answers

Answer:

x = 5 ,  x = - 6

Step-by-step explanation:

First we factor using factorisation method :

We need 2 numbers that multiply to give +1 and add to give -30 :

To find these numbers we write out all the factors of 30 :

1, 30

2 , 15

3 , 10

5 , 6    ----> These must be the numbers as -5+6 = 1

Now we split +x into -5x and +6x :

x² -5x + 6x -30 = 0

Factor the first 2 terms together and the last two terms :

x(x-5) + 6(x-5) = 0

Keep 1 bracket and terms outside the brackets collect them into one:

(x-5)(x+6) = 0

We know that 1 of these brackets must be equal to zero as anything multiplied by zero = 0

Either x - 5 =0      OR x + 6 = 0

So x = 5                x = - 6

How to evaluate an Integral with Green's Theorem?

The line integral of a vector-valued function along the edges of a rectangle or any other closed curve can be found by converting the line integral into a double integral. We apply Green's theorem to do this. The resulting double integral is integrated over the two-dimensional region bounded by the same closed curve.

Green's Theorem can be applied as follows:

∮_c (P.dx + Q.dy) = ∫∫_R ((dQ/dx) - (dP/dy))dA

The vertices of the rectangle (1,1), (3,1), (1,4), and (3,4).

Prove that $5^{3^n} + 1$ is divisible by $3^{n + 1}$ for all nonnegative integers $n.$

Answers

When [tex]n=0[/tex], we have

[tex]5^{3^0} + 1 = 5^1 + 1 = 6[/tex]

[tex]3^{0 + 1} = 3^1 = 3[/tex]

and of course 3 | 6. ("3 divides 6", in case the notation is unfamiliar.)

Suppose this is true for [tex]n=k[/tex], that

[tex]3^{k + 1} \mid 5^{3^k} + 1[/tex]

Now for [tex]n=k+1[/tex], we have

[tex]5^{3^{k+1}} + 1 = 5^{3^k \times 3} + 1 \\\\ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ = \left(5^{3^k}\right)^3 + 1^3 \\\\ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ = \left(5^{3^k} + 1\right) \left(\left(5^{3^k}\right)^2 - 5^{3^k} + 1\right)[/tex]

so we know the left side is at least divisible by [tex]3^{k+1}[/tex] by our assumption.

It remains to show that

[tex]3 \mid \left(5^{3^k}\right)^2 - 5^{3^k} + 1[/tex]

which is easily done with Fermat's little theorem. It says

[tex]a^p \equiv a \pmod p[/tex]

where [tex]p[/tex] is prime and [tex]a[/tex] is any integer. Then for any positive integer [tex]x[/tex],

[tex]5^3 \equiv 5 \pmod 3 \implies (5^3)^x \equiv 5^x \pmod 3[/tex]

Furthermore,

[tex]5^{3^k} \equiv 5^{3\times3^{k-1}} \equiv \left(5^{3^{k-1}}\right)^3 \equiv 5^{3^{k-1}} \pmod 3[/tex]

which goes all the way down to

[tex]5^{3^k} \equiv 5 \pmod 3[/tex]

So, we find that

[tex]\left(5^{3^k}\right)^2 - 5^{3^k} + 1 \equiv 5^2 - 5 + 1 \equiv 21 \equiv 0 \pmod3[/tex]

Given that money market account investment at 2.55 percent (APY), a 1.11 % inflation rate, a 28 percent marginal tax bracket, and a constant $60000 balance.

Cash management is the backbone of any business. Cash management ensures that the company operates according to established standards and optimizes the use of funds to avoid wasting resources. Liquidity management decisions are therefore key to preserving a company's capital and profitability.

Firstly, we will find the after-tax return rate, we get

After-tax return rate= Before tax rate of return \times ( 1 - tax rate)

After-tax rate of return = 0.0255× ( 1 - 0.28)

After-tax rate of return = 0.0255×0.72

After-tax rate of return=1.84%

Now, we will find the real return, we get

Real  return=((1+After-tax Return)/(1+inflation rate))-1

Real return=((1+0.0184)/(1+0.0111))-1

Real return=(1.0184/1.0111)-1

Real return=1.00721-1

Real return=0.721%

Furthermore, we will find the total monetary return, we get

Total monetary rate=Balance×Before tax rate of return

Total monetary rate=60000×2.55%

Total monetary rate=$1530.

The implications of this result for cash management decisions is that it becomes very challenging to grow with such a return as the taxes and inflation is draining the returns and leaving only with negative returns.

Hence, the after-tax rate of return is 1.84%, the real return is 0.721%, the total monetary return is $1530 and the implications become very challenging to grow with such a return as the taxes and inflation is draining the returns and leaving only with negative returns.

There are two situation in Unitary method:

There are 5 ice-creams. 5 ice-creams cost $125.

Step 1: Let’s find the cost of 1 ice cream. In order to do that, divide the total cost of ice-creams by the total number of ice-creams. The cost of 1 ice-cream = Total cost of ice-creams/Total number of ice-creams = 125/5 = 25. Therefore, the cost of 1 ice cream is $25.

Step 2: To find the cost of 3 ice-creams, multiply the cost of 1 ice cream by the number of ice-creams. The cost of 3 ice-creams is cost of 1 ice-cream × number of ice-creams = 25 × 3 = $75. Finally, we have the cost of 3 ice-creams i.e. $75.

1 thousand
2 thousand
3 thousand
5 thousand

Answers

The quantity of product that would result in the same profit is 1 thousand. Option A

How to determine the function

Given the polynomial function as;

P(t) = –2t³ + 8t² + 2t

Where;

P(t) is the company's profit = $8 milliont is the number of skincare profit

Let's equate the values

–2t³ + 8t² + 2t = 8

–2t³ + 8t² + 2t - 8 = 0

Factorize the expression

(-2t³ + 8t²) + ( 2t -8) = 0

- t² ( 2t - 8) + (2t -8) = 0

We take the similar factor

2t - 8 = 0

2t = 8

t = 8/2

t = 4

Forman1911THE MATCHThere never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by natureby a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble. In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.Read the first sentence of the text:There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. What is the main purpose of this sentence in the essay?A, To describe the misery of early human existenceB, To explain how early fires were started C, To suggest humans have an easier life than we once did D, To support the idea that matches really changed human life Need help understanding how to find the answer to problem Can you please help me identify the property that justifies the work between step 3 and step 4 Which prediction does this passage best support? napoleon will be eaten by the humans. snowball will run away from the farm. napoleon will rise as the only leader. snowball will start a new rebellion.
