In the EEA article “The Melting Arctic,” what is the effect of the author separating the article into multiple sections? Does that structure help strengthen the argument presented in the article? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer:

okshhfhfjdjxhxvxhxhzxb

Answer:

The article is relatively long, so the author's division of the content into sections presents the information in manageable parts. Each section has a heading that specifies the content of the section; the headings also serve to better organize the key ideas. Without these section headings, some readers might lose track of how the article progresses.

The use of sections also helps to structure the article into a logical progression. The article starts with observed facts and expert comments on the facts to establish the background—that the Arctic ice is melting. It then proceeds to the immediate effects (the rising sea level). Finally, it discusses the long-term effects that might occur.

The division into sections with headings increases the chances that readers will understand the multiple aspects of the article. Also, starting with facts that most readers will not doubt and then shifting to potential future effects increases the chances that readers will accept the underlying message of the article—that the melting of the Arctic ice is harmful.

Explanation:

Is a mother's love strong enough to cause the destruction of masterpieces worth millions of dollars? If the confession of the mother of an accused art thief is to be believed, the answer is yes. The story begins in October of 2012, when works by Picasso, Monet, Matisse, and others were stolen from a museum in the Netherlands. In July of 2013, Olga Dogaru disclosed that her son hid the stolen art in her tiny Romanian town. When he was arrested, she decided to remove the evidence that could connect him to the crime. She placed all the paintings in a wood-burning stove and set them afire. Initial forensic investigation of the stove indicates that Dogaru is telling the truth and the art was burned.

What is the main idea of this passage?

A.  A mother's love led to the theft of millions of dollars of artistic masterpieces.

B.  Paintings worth millions of dollars were recovered from a tiny Romanian town.

C.  Stolen art was probably destroyed when a mother burned paintings to protect her son.

D.  The investigation of an art theft in October of 2012 has led to the arrest of the suspect's mother.

E.  I don't know.

Answers

Answer:

C.  Stolen art was probably destroyed when a mother burned paintings to protect her son.

Explanation:

The passage explains that the mother "decided to remove the evidence that could connect [the son] to the crime. She placed all the paintings in a wood-burning stove and set them afire." These sentences show that the stolen art was burned by a mother trying to hide evidence that would show her son was guilty of the crime.

what cultural biases about native americans does cabeza de vaca reveal in ""La Relación"" ?

Answers

Answer:

The cultural bias that can be found in Cabeza de Vaca's account in 'La Relacion' is that when Vaca and his fellow men thought Native Americans to be 'crude and untutored' and the one's who intend harm even after saving their lives.

Explanation:

Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer who was stranded on Galveston island in expedition with his fellow men in 1528. He wrote about his exploration experience in his diary which was later printed entitled 'La Relacion of Alvar Nunez Cabeza da Vaca.'

In his account recorded in 'La Relacion', the readers come across the author's bias towards the culture of Native Americans.

The two incidents that reveals this cultural bias noted by Vaca in 'La Relacion' are:

Vaca and his fellow men thought the Native Americans to be 'crude and untutored' even after they saved their lives at first. When the Native Americans held a celebration, they thought they will sacrifice them. This reveals the cultural bias about the Native Americans by Vaca and his fellow men. Second instance of cultural bias can be found when Native Americans asked them to perform 'tribal medicine rituals.' At this point, Vaca and his fellow men biased Native Americans thinking them to be superstitious and untutored.

In "Excerpt from Gadgets: Built To Not Last," what does the phrase "throwaway culture” in
paragraph 3 suggest about our society? Use two details from the excerpt to support your response.

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Industry has made devices that are far more expensive to repair (to fix what's wrong) than to replace.  A throwaway culture is one that falls into that category. We don't repair things. We throw them away.

I have a printer sitting in my room. It prints in color. It is the only printer I own that does. And yet I never use it. It is unplugged and sits on the top shelf of a storage cabinate. The author makes exactly the same point I'm describing. And yet I don't want to throw the printer away. I know I will never use it again and I should throw it away, but my frugal sense tells me not to, so I don't.

Phones are the same way. I was surprised to learn that phones are sealed so the battery cannot be replaced. You cannot repair such a phone. You can only clutter the landfill with it.

That's alarming. The author has a solution. Don't buy such devices. If you don't buy it, they won't make it.

Gadgets: Built To Not Last is written by Mike Elgan. The phrase "throwaway culture" means that the gadgets are thrown away when not in need or are not repaired.

What is the throwaway culture about?

The content is about electronic gadgets, devices and systems. The repairing of these devices are more expensive and people now have adapted to the throwaway culture where they do not repair the gadgets.

The depiction of the ideal and useless printer by the author, sealed phones that cannot separate the batteries are the instances that the author uses to depict the throwaway culture.

Therefore, throwaway culture does not believe in repairing things.

Answer: B . Bierce uses a cynical tone to ridicule human behavior and

society

Explanation:

Ambrose Bierce´s The Devil's Dictionary, which started in a weekly paper in 1881, was a satirical glossary with funny and satirical commentaries written over three decades as a series of installments for magazines and newspapers. Later, his clever comments were plagiarized for many years before he published them in The Cynic's Word Book in 1906 and later in The Devil's Dictionary in 1911.

The assignment for this lesson is to read a passage and answer the following questions: What is the tone of the passage? Which words give the passage this tone, and how does this contribute to the overall meaning of the passage? Yes, she had burned her favorite interview blouse with the iron this morning, and, yes, she had found that her bread was moldy only after she'd taken her first bite of toast. can someone help me write a persuasive paragraph on something? it can be anything just something appropriate please

Answers

Answer:

I believe that kids should not be assigned homework because school and the classes that we now have are difficult enough. As though our minds are already exhausted from having to get up and go to school extra early and complete all of this work in several subjects. And I know that I hardly have the time or energy to do homework after school because I work most of the time, even when I don't have to work, I am constantly tired because I work night shift on school days, so I am up working all night and exhausted when I come home. We all need a vacation from all the homework now and then. Additionally, all of our other classes are sure to have given us a schoolwork already. You can't reasonably expect us to undertake all of this labor, can you? And, to be honest, I don't see the point; why make us do work in class and then punish us by assigning us homework at home? When we get a brief break from school until the next morning, home is supposed to be a place to relax. When I get off work, I go home to rest, just like other people. You don't see people's employment assigning them duties that they must complete at home. When I go to work, I clean and take orders, but when I go home, I don't take orders, so why should I have to learn and do schoolwork projects at home? Because the concept is that we work when we are there, but after you clock out and go home, you have that time to relax. So, my conclusion is that homework isn't crucial because school is for learning and home is where we unwind after a long day at school.

What method best describes the rhetoric John F. Kennedy uses in this speech to convince people that Germany is undergoing a revolutionary
moment?

Answers

The correct answer is C. Repetition of a phrase for emphasis

Explanation:

Kennedy's speech on June 26 of 1963 referred to the situation of Berlin during that time as this was divided into west and east. Moreover, the west side was supported by capitalist countries, while the east country was supported by the communist countries, especially the Soviet Union.

In terms of rhetoric, in this speech, Kennedy uses multiple times the phrase "Let them come to Berlin" to convey the idea communism is negative and has had negative effects on Berlin. For example, in "There are some who say that communism is the wave of future. Let them come to Berlin" the phrases emphasize communism is not a positive form of government, and has had negative effects in the city, which also suggests this situation should end. Thus, the correct answer is C.
