play with the simulation to determine: a) which particles affect the stability of the atom? b) which particles do not affect the stability of the atom?

Answers

Answer 1

a) Neutrons or protons are the particles that have an impact on the stability of the atom.

b) Electrons are the particles that have no impact on the stability of the atom.

When an element's atoms have excess neutrons or protons, the extra energy produced in the nucleus causes the atom to lose its equilibrium or become unstable.

Whether or not an atom's outermost shell is filled with electrons determines how stable the atom is. The molecule is stable if the outer layer is full. To attain stability, vacant outer shell atoms often form chemical interactions with other atoms.

Radioactivity is the capacity of some unstable atoms to spontaneously release nuclear radiation, often in the form of alpha and beta particles associated with gamma rays. The nucleus of an atom might become unstable if there are too many neutrons or protons present.

By ejecting other particles, such as neutrons and protons, or by emitting radiation in a variety of ways, a radioactive atom will attempt to become stable. Thus, the atom's electrons are the only internal particle that has no impact on the atom's stability.

at the standard temperature , the pressure inside an lp [propane] gas cylinder is 883 kpa. what is , the absolute pressure inside the gas cylinder when it is full, and when it is completely empty?

Answers

984 kpa is the absolute pressure of gas cylinder when full.

101 kpa is the absolute pressure of gas cylinder when it’s empty.

Pressure is the force exerted on a particular surface area and we know that Absolute pressure is equal to the sum of gauge pressure and atmospheric pressure .Barometric pressure is the best example for absolute referenced pressure. Absolute pressure is measured in N/m² or pascal & kpa which is short for kilopascal

P(absolute)=P(gauge)+P(atm)

Here P(gauge) is pressure due to the contents present inside the cylinder

P(atm) is the pressure exerted by the atmosphere

=>883 kpa+101 kpa =984 kpa when full

Note that when the cylinder is empty the gauge pressure is zero as there is no substance to exert pressure So, only atmospheric pressure is exerted.

P(absolute)=0(because the cylinder is empty) + 101 kpa

Therefore P(absolute) =101 kpa when cylinder is empty.

1) 4NH3(g)+5O2(g)-->4NO(g)+6H2O(g)

2) 2NO(g)+O2(g)-->2NO2(g)

3) 3NO2(g)+H2O(l)-->2HNO3(aq)+NO(g)

State the ratio of moles of HNO3 to NH3:

4 moles of NH3 produce 4 moles of NO,

4 moles of NO produce 4 moles of NO2

4 moles of NO2 produce 4 * (2 / 3) moles of HNO3 = 8/3 moles of HNO3.

=> (8/3) moles HNO3 : 4 moles NH3

Calculate the number of moles of HNO3 in 10000 l of 0.7500 M solution

M = n / V => n = M * V = 0.7500 M * 10000 liter = 7500 moles HNO3

what is the heat of a reaction, in joules, with a total reaction mixture volume of 70.6 ml if the reaction causes a temperature change of 6.1 oc in a calorimeter? assume that the reaction mixture has a density of 1.00 g/ml and a specific heat of 4.184 j/g-oc. the calorimeter has a heat capacity of 10.0 j/oc.

Answers

With density 1.00 g/ml and a specific heat of 4.184 j/g we can see that the heat of the chemical reaction in joules is H = 1,596 J

We are given

Total volume of the mixture = 70.6 ml

Change in temperature = 6.1 °C

Density of reaction mixture =  1.00 g/ml

Specific heat of water =  4.184 J/g = 4200 J/Kg

Now Density = mass/volume

Mass of water = Density × volume

Mass of water =  1 g/mL × 62.3 mL

Now in order to find heat in joules, let's use the formula.

H = mcθ

m = mass of water

c = heat capacity of water

θ = temperature rise

Now substituting the values we get

H = 0.0623 Kg × 4200 J/Kg × 6.1 °C

H = 1,596 J = 1.5 KJ

Answers

The molecular formula of acetic acid is C[tex]_2[/tex]H[tex]_4[/tex]O[tex]_2[/tex].

In 100 g of sample of acetic acid,

the concentration of Carbon (C) is 40 g,

the concentration of Hydrogen (H) is 6.714 g,

the concentration of Oxygen (O) is 53.29 g

To calculate the no. of moles, mass is divided by molar mass.

Therefore, no. of moles of C = 40/12 = 3.33

No. of moles of H = 6.714/1 = 6.71

No. of moles of O = 53.29/16 = 3.33

As the ratio of the elements is 1C : 2H : 1O, thus, empirical formula is      CH[tex]_2[/tex]O

The molecular mass of the empirical formula CH[tex]_2[/tex]O is 12 + 1(2) + 16 = 30g/mol. Since the molar mass of acetic acid is 60.05 g/mol and the molecular mass of the empirical formula was found to be 30 g/mol, the subscripts of the empirical formula are multiplied by (60.05/30) 2, to get the molecular formula. Would you expect the equivalence point ph of the wasb to be slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly basic? how does this compare to the sasb equivalence point ph?.

Answers

the WASB has a slightly acidic equivalence point and SASB has a slightly basic equivalence point. This is because WASB has a higher concentration of hydronium ions than SASB.

Hydronium ions play an important role in acid-base reactions. It is the hydrogen ion that is released or taken up in the acid-base reaction. The higher the concentration of hydronium ions, the more acidic the solution. In an acid-base reaction, an acid donates a hydrogen ion to a base. Bases accept hydrogen ions. This creates new water molecules. The equivalence point is the point at which an acid and a base react with 1:1 ratio. At this point the solution is neutral. If the acid has a higher concentration of hydronium ions than the base, the equivalence point is slightly acidic. This is due to the presence of more hydronium ions than at the start of the reaction. If the base has a higher concentration of hydronium ions than the acid, the equivalence point is slightly basic.

Answers

partial pressure of n2o in the gas mixture was found to be 143.6 kPa

what is partial pressure?

Each gas that makes up a mixture of gases has a partial pressure, which represents the pressure that would exist if that gas alone had filled the complete volume of the initial mixture at the same temperature. According to Dalton's Law, the partial pressures of the individual gases make up the overall pressure of a perfect gas combination.

A gas's partial pressure is a gauge of its molecules' thermodynamic activity. However, unlike liquids or gas mixtures, gases behave differently depending on their partial pressures when dissolving, diffusing, and reacting. This characteristic of gases often holds true for gas chemical reactions in biology.

As per the data give

Moles (o2) = 2.83 mol

Moles (n2o) = 8.41 mol

Total pressure = 192 kPa

so the total number of moles should be calculated

Total No.of moles = no of moles in  o2  + no of moles in n2o = 2.83 + 8.41 = 11.24 mol

mole fraction for n2o

Mole fraction = moles  of compound/ Total moles

Mole fraction for n2o = 8.41 / 11.24 = 0.748

so now calculate the partial pressure of n2o

pn2o = 0.748 192 kPa

pn2o = 143.6 kPa

2) During the reaction, how does the rate of the forward direction compare to the rate of the reverse direction?

Answers

The reaction has a low activation energy and mostly of the reactants are converted into products hence the reaction tends to occur in the forward direction

2) The rate of the reverse reaction is too small compared to  the rate of the forward reaction.

What is the reaction?

The term reaction has to do with the interaction that occurs between the reactants and the products. Thus as the reactants interacts, a new substance is formed and then we have new substances and they are called  the products. Looking at the reaction as it is written in question (1), we can see that the there is a complete and total interaction that occurs as all the reactants are converted into products. Given the fact that all the reactants are converted into products, the reactions can only proceed forward.

In this reaction, we can see from the equation that the reaction is reversible. This means that the reaction is able to occur in both directions; forward and backwards. This reactions proceeds mostly forward hence the rate of reverse reaction is infinitesimal compared to the rate of the forward reaction.

The shore of Lake Assal in Djibouti is the lowest point on land in Africa. This point is 153 meters below sea level. Using equations 10.3 and 10.4, the temperature required to boil water on the shore of Lake Assal would be 82.6 degrees.

What is sea level?

Sea level is described as an average surface level of one or more among Earth's coastal bodies of water from which heights such as elevation may be measured.

Sea level rise is as a result of two primary factors related to global warming:

the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers, and the expansion of seawater as it warms

We are going to use the formula that says "Fahrenheit is equal to 9/6 times C plus 32.

where c = 32

Fahrenheit  = 9/6 * 28.1 + 32

Fahrenheit = 82.6 degrees.
