Read the following passage carefully and answer all the questions which follow. Cholera is a very dangerous disease which can kill many people within a short time. Indeed, it has ruined several communities particularly in developing countries. It must therefore be prevented at all costs. The disease is generally spread by germs which thrive in filthy and unhygienic areas. There could be an outbreak of cholera when drinking water becomes polluted by floods after a down pour. Human carriers also cause the disease to spread from place to place. For example, a person carrying the cholera germs would vomit or pass frequent stools. Flies would then carry the germs on their hairy legs and deposit them on exposed food or in water. When a person eats this contaminated food or drinks the polluted water, he or she is likely to contract the disease within a few days. The person would go about spreading the disease unknowingly. On the whole, the main symptoms of cholera are severe diarrhoea and vomiting, which may result in loss of weight. The stool tend to be watery. As a lot of fluid is lost from the body, the patient quickly becomes dehydrated, thin and weak. The rapid loss of body fluid can soon result in death unless, the lost fluid is replaced immediately. The first thing for the patient to do is to replenish as much fluid as is lost by taking, from time to time, boiled water which has been allowed to cool and mixed with salt and sugar. Then, he should seek medical attention. (f) For each of the following words, give another word or phrase that means the same and can fit into the passage. (i) thrive (ii) deposit (iii) rapid (iv) replenish (v) seek

Answer 1

In metals, the valence electrons are considered to be____.

In contrast to substances with covalent bonds, metals' valence electrons are nonlocalized, which allows them to roam quite freely throughout the crystal.

An electron in an atom's outer shell is known as a valence electron, and if the outer shell is open, the valence electron can take part in the formation of a chemical bond. A shared pair arises in a single covalent bond when both atoms in the link contribute one valence electron. The electrons in an atom's outermost energy level or shell are known as valence electrons. With six valence electrons, oxygen has two in the 2s subshell and four in the 2p subshell. Valence electrons for oxygen have the configuration 2s22p4.

Bagels and bread are healthier for you?

Which best describes the relationship among character, plot, and theme?
A. Character, plot, and theme are separate, unconnected text elements.
B. The behaviors of characters drive the plot but have little to do with theme.
C. The plot of a story connects closely to its theme but not to its characters.
D. The actions and motivations of characters contribute to theme and plot.

Answers

The option that best describes the relationship between the elements is D, "The actions and motivations of characters contribute to theme and plot."

How do the elements connect?

The plot is the story itself, the theme is the idea that underlies the story, and the characters are the people we read about in that story. One element cannot exist without the other. They are fundamentally connected.

When a character thinks or does something, he or she has motivations and goals that often reveal the theme - love, revenge, loss of innocence, etc. The conflicts and events that result from what the characters do are what constitutes the plot itself. Thus, we can choose option D as the right answer for this question.

C.This book is useful for practicing language skills, learning new vocabulary, and understanding Spanish- speaking cultures.
D.By spending a year in Spain, you will not only enjoy living among a different culture, but also being able to travel easily throughout Europe.

The option in which incorrect parallel structure is used is A. "In the summertime, I love to go swimming, hike, or relax with a good book," as explained below.

What is parallel structure?

Parallel structure refers to the repetition of a particular structure inside a sentence. For example, suppose you want to list your hobbies. If the first hobby you mention is a verb with -ing, such as "swimming," then it would make for sense for all the other hobbies to be mentioned with the same -ing structure. If, on the other hand, you choose to use a verb with "to", like "to swim," it would be best to use all other verbs with "to" as well. For example:

I like swimming, dancing, and playing volleyball.I like to swim, to dance, and to play volleyball.
