one day. No, they were everywhere. Every day. On the
streets, on the television, on the radio. A hot, angry tangle
of shaking fists and ugly words that threatened us like a
monster with a hundred heads. Our country had chewed us
up and spit us out, and now we were being treated as if it.
were our fault.

were heroic.
C. I hadn't expected to find myself in a rags-to-riches situation such
as this.
D. Our feet were frozen in place as the street itself strained to hold us

Answer:D as the other people were threatening them

We had come home to a feeding frenzy and were being treated as bait. The correct option is D.

What is figurative language?

It employs literary devices such as metaphors, similes, personification, hyperbole, and symbolism, among others.

The sentence that best matches the tone of the paragraph is: "a hot, angry tangle of shaking fists and ugly words that threatened us like a monster with a hundred heads."

What purpose do sentence starters
serve?
A)to introduce and to explain the textual evidence
B) to repeat the writer's idea
C) to explain the textual evidence
D)to introduce the textual evidence

Answers

Answer: D)to introduce the textual evidence

Explanation: While it can be difficult at times to start sentences in order to express ideas or thoughts, sentence starters can come to the rescue as they are words and phrases to use at the start of sentences and thus provides a partial frame to begin. It serves to introduce the textual evidence (the point of analysis) within a text in order to complete a writing or discussion activity thus helping them build toward the ability to analyze and write about content without the use of the frames.

Read Glacier National Park:

Glacier National Park spans one million acres of protected mountains, glaciers, and lakes. It forms part of the Continental Divide. On Triple Divide Peak, the Continental Divide meets the Northern Divide. Here, water can flow to the Atlantic, Pacific, or Arctic Oceans. Fortunately, people have left the park almost unchanged. The different plants, rare and endangered species, and vast water resources of Glacier National Park make its protection a top priority. In 1932, Rotary Clubs from Canada and the United States worked together to protect Glacier National Park and Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park. Combined, the parks form the first international peace park in the world. Glacier is also designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve and world heritage site.

Glacier National Park experiences extreme weather changes. Conditions alter as the elevation increases. The warm air of the Pacific Ocean brings precipitation to the western part of the park. In contrast, the Arctic Ocean's cold air makes the northeastern side drier. The air from the Pacific Ocean and Arctic Ocean can collide on the Continental Divide. A blizzard can develop. As a result, these mountains can have 100 inches of annual snowfall. The clashing winds also contribute to extreme temperature changes. A nearby town holds the world record for temperature change. In 1916, Browning's temperature decreased by 100 degrees Fahrenheit in one day! Glacier National Park is indeed a place of contrasts.

Glacier National Park's unique combination of lush vegetation, endangered wildlife, and splendid natural landscapes attracts diverse people. Scientists research the impact of global warming on the shrinking glaciers. Interested people learn about Native American traditions. Many visitors drive the popular Going-to-the-Sun Road or take a boat tour to experience a land carved by glaciers. Outdoor enthusiasts can bike, hike, horseback ride, fish, snowshoe, cross-country ski, or go white-water rafting. No matter the season, this vast land of majestic mountains and peaceful lakes truly embodies its name, Crown of the Continent.

Select the sentence from the text that best supports the idea that there are a variety of activities for park visitors to choose from.

Answer: Triple Divide is commonly hailed as unique and significant because water from its peak flows into three oceans. That depends on whether you think Hudson Bay connects to the Atlantic or Arctic Ocean, and there is certainly some dispute surrounding that. There’s another triple divide peak in Canada that flows directly into the Arctic and Pacific Oceans, as well as into Hudson Bay. So, depending on what you think about Hudson Bay, either Canada or Montana has a triple ocean divide. The International Hydrographic Organization considers it to be in the Arctic division of oceans and seas, so that might be a win for Montana. The significance of these triple divides as possibly flowing into three oceans also depends on your definitions of oceans, which isn’t always straightforward. Regardless, though, they all flow into three distinct and major drainages. (As a side note, the naming schema for water around triple divides tend to follow a similar structure; surrounding rivers, streams, and glaciers are often named for the drainage they join. Triple Divide Peak in Montana has the Pacific, Atlantic, and Hudson Bay Creeks. Snow Dome has the Columbia and Athabasca Glaciers, as well as the Dome and Stuttfield Glaciers.)

As an exhibits specialist in Glacier, my job was to design interpretive wayside panels with our seasonal media team. One of our selected topics was Triple Divide Peak. (If you’ve ever been to a national park, or really any public land or well traversed road, you may have seen a wayside on the side of the road. They’re meant to be quick interpretations of what you’re seeing, an opportunity for visitors to connect to the place they’re in without necessarily interacting with a ranger.) I always thought I had a pretty good grasp of what a watershed was and how drainages worked from my time studying and living by the Mississippi, but I learned so much throughout the course of making this wayside

6. Zaroff also says, "Instinct is no match for reason." Again, explain his
meaning in your own words. Is he right? Wrong? Give evidence from
your life or the modern world to support your stance.

Answers

Let's begin by directly answering the question. Please, keep in mind this question is asking for a personal opinion. You can use this answer as a template in case you disagree with the opinion expressed:

Yes, I believe Zaroff is right when he says, "Instinct is no match for reason." It was our ability to reason that led us to humans to survive and thrive in extreme environments all over the world. It was reason that allowed us to learn from the past and to develop intellectually. That does not mean reason cannot be used for the bad. We do, in fact, use it to destroy, be it with pesticides or with an atomic bomb, for instance. But still, the amazing scientific and technological advances we see in the modern world - take vaccines, smartphones, or 3D printers as an example - are proof of how reason helped us prevail, evolve, and survive.

The character mentioned in the question is general Zaroff, from the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by American author Richard Connell (1893-1949). Zaroff is a Russian general who lives secluded in an island. His hobby is hunting, and he has grown quite proficient in it. So much so that he no longer sees animals as enough of a challenge. Zaroff now hunts men, who, because of their ability to reason, are more difficult preys. As a matter of fact, the main conflict in the story begins when Zaroff decides to hunt the main character, Rainsford.

In conclusion, the general values humans' ability to reason, but uses it as an excuse to make them his prey. Although his argument that reason is better than instinct is not necessarily wrong, his actions are immoral and indefensible.

Please can someone tell me the chapter 2 summary of Kensuke's kingdom

Answers

Answer:

The answer is

Explanation:

A young boy, Michael, travels with his parents around the world on the yacht Peggy Sue. Michael's parents teach him what he would have normally learnt at school themselves. When he is on lookout one night, steering the boat, Michael and his dog, Stella Artois, are washed overboard. They awake to discover that they are stranded on a desert island in the Pacific Ocean.

While Michael is struggling to survive on the island, food is regularly left for him. To his surprise, he learns that an old man called Kensuke is also living on the island. Kensuke helps Michael to survive. He sets guidelines that Michael thinks are just annoyances. When he is nearly killed by a giant jelly fish, Kensuke tends to Michael, and Michael eventually befriends him.

Michael teaches Kensuke English, and Kensuke in return teaches Michael how to paint, how to fish and where to find the best food and water. He is eventually revealed to be a doctor and survivor of ww 2, and he believes that his family died in nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped there on August 9, 1945. Over time Kensuke begins to understand how Michael feels and how he misses his family. They both build a beacon that would be lit to signal to ships, but for a long time they see no sign of any ships. Later, however Michael witnesses a Chinese junk and he consults Kensuke as to whether or not he should light the beacon, but Kensuke recognizes the ship as that of poachers and he and Michael rush to gather all the orangutans into the cave to protect them from the threat that lies in the ship. They nearly succeed but miss out one orangutan, that Kensuke calls Kikanbo, which they could not find. The ship arrives and they both hear gunshots. When the ship leaves they discover that some gibbon monkeys had been killed, but that Kikanbo was still alive. The next time they see a ship it is not the poachers and they both light the fire. The crew on the ship see the fire and change direction, heading towards the island. When the boat is closer, Michael sees that the boat is the Peggy Sue, with his parents on-board. Kensuke decides at that point, despite thinking otherwise earlier, that he would not be sailing home with Michael and tells him to keep everything a secret until 10 years had passed and Kensuke was dead. Michael runs out to the beach where the ship had landed and is reunited with his parents.

Hope this helps....

Have a nice day!!!!

Michael's boating adventure is mentioned in the summary. It also explains how he completes his academic work while on the boat.

What is Summary?

A summary refers to a brief introduction of any topic in your own words to make the reader easily understand the plot and setting of any story and help them to engage effectively.

The adventure Michael had aboard the boat is mentioned in the summary. It also explains his study habits while on the boat. According to Michael, he keeps a diary of the things he observes. Two-thirds of the surface of the earth is covered with water, Michael also informs us.

The summary of chapter 2 entails that Food is frequently left for Michael, who is trying to survive on the island. He discovers an elderly guy named Kensuke also resides on the island. Michael is helped by Kensuke to survive. Michael views the rules he establishes as just irritants.
